Open Letter To Ministry Of Forests, Range Branch Re: Application To Use Herbicides.

This application is addressed as a Development of Pest Management plan giving the illusion it is not decided yet what the plan is, and using deadly chemicals, toxins and poisons classed as herbicides to eradicate invasive species. It makes no sense and I don’t understand why the government would utilize this arsenal of poisons in one breath then talk about climate change in the next. Also stated in the plan is cultural control – What is cultural control?

Plants, trees and vegetation provide us with the air we breathe, the food we eat, the heat and medicine, among a few benefits and without them we no longer exist. Explorers, adventurers, nurseries and travellers have always brought in plants and seeds from other parts of the world. What is indicated as invasive are such plants that today are still being sold in nurseries or as seeds or travellers bring home to try. And polluting the earth with chemicals, toxins and poisons when some of the vegetation to be eradicated, the seeds have a lifespan of 10 years. These tiny seeds are in the ground, and the toxic poisons/chemicals will disperse into the waterways and ecosystem long before the seeds will no longer be viable.

Here is a scenario: you take your little ones for a hike to enjoy nature – all of a sudden the little ones become violently ill – you have no idea what it is – you rush to the nearest hospital – they have been poisoned by one or more of the toxic chemical/poisons listed. Someone removed the sign that was posted – you had no idea – now you are challenged with your little ones struggling – maybe for the rest of their life, maybe for a little while – Would you take this chance?

Now look at the horrific suffering this causes the plants – they grow and struggle to breathe and unable to access water and air – Would you like to die this way?

There are better alternatives: educate people about the plants they want to landscape with or plants/seeds brought/bought from another country, manually remove and/or educate communities how to eradicate the species.

Putting tonnes of toxic chemical poisons into the environment, that all (Yes all) have a detrimental effect on human life, plant and animal life, water systems, bees, environmental, soil and air – is leading us to extinction.

I strongly disagree with any plan to limit life on earth through use of toxic chemical poisons whether it is a herbicide, pesticide and/or other pharmaceuticals.

Below is a bit of history on how chemicals came about and what they were/are used for:

The herbicide (chemical) research is done by the manufacturer then accepted by Government officials. Would you trust the corporation, that has potential to make millions if not billions of dollars, to give you an honest reporting? Other research done by concerned individuals and companies, using their own money is far and few between. Governments use our tax dollars to subsidize large corporations so in return politicians get …. well let’s just say a lot of money is involved here.

Some of these chemicals have been used in war (Vietnam, WWI and WWII) and experimentation. The two main corporations making profits off this are DuPont/Dow or Dow/DuPont and BASF/Bayer or Bayer/BASF (IG Farben). These links are your history lesson.

The first farm chemical was produced in 1906 in the US and the corporation reaped billions in profits. More and more chemicals are being made as mother earth becomes resistant – and each time the poison becomes greater and greater. We now have people dying of cancer, neurological diseases, human infertility, illnesses, children with ADD and ADHD, autism and the list goes on but these corporations know that because they have the lawsuits to prove it. They go to great lengths and cost to cover it up.
Many of these chemicals have been banned or restricted in different parts of the world because of the damage and loss they are causing, yet the corporations will pay big money to keep this information away from the public.

Fire Bonnie Henry!

Arthur —

On Wednesday, I stood up in the Legislature and called on David Eby to immediately fire Dr. Bonnie Henry.

During the COVID-19 crisis everyday hardworking people were sucked into a whirlpool of chaos caused by constantly changing rules, brutal restrictions on people’s personal freedoms, and a heavy-handed approach that especially failed the most vulnerable British Columbians.

Today, British Columbia stands alone — against all the evidence — as one of the only jurisdictions in the world to ban healthcare workers who choose not to take the vaccine. This is because of the ideological agenda of this extreme leftist NDP government and their unelected bureaucrats.

In the midst of a healthcare staffing crisis, Dr. Bonnie Henry and this NDP government have banned thousands of healthcare workers from working in BC’s hospitals, clinics, and Doctor’s Offices. This NDP government is failing working-class, everyday British Columbians, and so is Dr. Bonnie Henry.

Let me say this as a licensed Medical Professional who is personally twice vaccinated, this is not about opposing the jab — it is about ending the medical tyranny of this NDP government and Dr. Bonnie Henry.

Of course, he got his Health Minister to dodge the question completely, but we aren’t going to stop. Our party is the only party speaking up for you in the Legislature, but we need your help.

Arthur, I hope you will join me in taking this step to support the Conservative Party.

Any amount you donate will be eligible for tax credits and go directly to fighting the radical policies of the BCNDP.

DONATE NOW

We can’t do this without your support. We need to run a full slate of candidates in this upcoming election to throw out this radical NDP government. Together, as British Columbians — let’s stand for what’s right.

THE PEOPLE’S PARTY OF AMERICA

“Assembled upon the one hundred and sixteenth anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, [1892 Editor] the People’s Party of America, in their first National convention, invoking upon their action the blessing of Almighty God, puts forth, in the name and on behalf of the people of this country, the following preamble and declaration of principles:

“The conditions which surround us best justify our co-operation. We meet in the midst of a nation brought to the verge of moral, political and material ruin. Corruption dominates the ballot box, the legislatures, the Congress, and touches even the ermine of the Bench. The people are demoralized ; most of the States have been compelled to isolate the voters at the polling places to prevent universal intimidation or bribery. The newspapers are largely subsidized or muzzled, public opinion silenced, business prostrated, our homes covered with mortgages, labor impoverished, and the land concentrating in the hands of the capitalists. The urban workmen are denied the right to organize for self-protection ; imported pauperized labor beats down their wages ; a hireling standing army, unrecognized by our law, is established to shoot them down, and they are rapidly degenerating into European conditions. The fruits of the toil of millions are boldly stolen to build up colossal fortunes for a few, unprecedented in the history of mankind, and the possessors of these in turn despise the Republic and endanger liberty. From the same prolific womb of governmental injustice we breed the two great classes – tramps and millionaires.

“The national power to create money is appropriated to enrich bondholders ; a vast public debt, payable in legal tender currency, has been funded into gold-bearing bonds, thereby adding millions to the burdens of the people. Silver, which has been accepted as coin since the dawn of history, has been demonetized to add to the purchasing power of gold by decreasing the value of all forms of property as well as human labor, and the supply of currency is purposely abridged to fatten usurers, bankrupt enterprise, and enslave industry.

“A vast conspiracy against mankind has been organized on two continents, and it is rapidly taking possession of the world. If not met and overthrown at once it forbodes terrible social convulsions, the destruction of civilization, or the establishment of an absolute despotism. We have witnessed, for more than a quarter of a century, the struggles of the two great political parties for power and plunder, while grievous wrongs have been inflicted upon the suffering people. We charge that the controlling influences dominating both these parties have permitted the existing dreadful conditions to develop without serious effort to prevent or restrain them. Neither do they now promise us any substantial reform. They have agreed together to ignore, in the coming campaign, every issue but one. They propose to drowned the outcries with the uproar of a sham battle over the tariff, so that capitalists, corporations, national banks, rings, trusts, watered stock, the demonetization of silver and the oppressions of the usurers may all be lost sight of. They propose to sacrifice our homes, lives and children, on the altar of mammon ; to destroy the multitude in order to secure corruption funds from the millionaires.

“Assembled on the anniversary of the birthday of the nation, and filled with the spirit of the grand general and chieftain who established our independence, we seek to restore the government of the Republic to the hands of the ‘plain people’ with whose class it originated. We assert our purposes to be identical with the purposes of the National Convention, to form a more perfect union, and establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty for ourselves and our posterity. We declare that this Republic can only endure as a free government while built upon the love of the whole people for each other and for the nation ; that it cannot be pinned together by bayonets ; that the civil war is over, and that every passion and resentment which grew out of it must die with it, and that we must be in fact, as we are in name, one united brotherhood of freedom.

“Our country finds itself confronted by conditions for which there is no precedent in the history of the world ; our annual agricultural productions amount to billions of dollars in value, which must within a few weeks or months be exchanged for billions of dollars’ worth of commodities consumed in their production ; the existing currency supply is wholly inadequate to make this exchange ; the results are falling prices, the formation of combines and rings, the impoverishment of the producing class. We pledge ourselves that, if given power, we will labor to correct these evils by wise and reasonable legislation, in accordance with the terms of our platform. We believe that the powers of government–in other words, of the people–should be expanded (as in the case of the postal service) as rapidly and as far as the good sense of an intelligent people and the teachings of experience shall justify, to the end that oppression, injustice and poverty shall eventually cease in the land.

“While our sympathies as a party of reform are naturally upon the side of every proposition which will tend to make men intelligent, virtuous and temperate, we nevertheless regard these questions–important as they are–as secondary to the great issues now pressing for solution, and upon which not only our individual prosperity, but the very existence of free institutions depends ; and we ask all men to first help us to determine whether we are to have a Republic to administer, before we differ as to the conditions upon which it is to be administered ; believing that the forces of reform this day organized will never cease to move forward until every wrong is righted, and equal rights and equal privileges securely established for all the men and women of this country, we declare, therefore,

“1. That the union of the labor forces of the United States this day consummated shall be permanent and perpetual ; may its spirit enter into all hearts for the salvation of the Republic and the uplifting of mankind.

“2. Wealth belongs to him who creates it, and every dollar taken from industry without an equivalent is robbery. ‘If any will not work, neither shall he eat.’ The interests of rural and civic labor are the same ; their enemies are identical.

“3. We believe that the time has come when the railroad corporations will either own the people or the people must own the railroads ; and should the government enter upon the work of owning and managing all railroads, we should favor an amendment to the Constitution by which all persons engaged in the government service shall be placed under a civil service regulation of the most rigid character, so as to prevent the increase of the power of the National Administration by the use of such additional government employees.

Money.–“1. We demand a national currency, safe, sound and flexible, issued by the General Government only, a full legal tender for all debts, public and private, and that without the use of banking corporations ; a just, equitable and efficient means of distribution direct to the people at a tax not to exceed 2 per cent per annum, to be provided as set forth in the sub-treasury plan of the Farmer’s Alliance, or a better system ; also by payments in discharge of its obligations for public improvements.
“(a) We demand free and unlimited coinage of silver and gold at the present legal ratio of 16 to 1.
“(b) We demand that the amount of circulating medium be speedily increased to not less that $50 per capita.
“(c) We demand a graduated income tax.
“(d) We believe that the money of the country should be kept as much as possible in the hands of the people, and hence we demand that all State and national revenues shall be limited to the necessary expenses of the government, economically and honestly administered.
“(e) We demand that the postal savings banks be established by the government for the safe deposit of the earnings of the people and to facilitate exchange.

Transportation.–“2. Transportation being a means of exchange and a public necessity, the government should own and operate the railroads in the interest of the people. The telegraph and telephone, like the post-office system, being a necessity for the transmission of news, should be owned and operated by the government in the interests of the people.

Land.–“3. The land, including all the natural sources of wealth, is the heritage of the people, and should not be monopolized for speculative purposes, and alien ownership of land should be prohibited. All land now held by railroads and other corporations in excess of their actual needs, and all lands now owned by aliens, should be reclaimed by the government and held for actual settlers only.”

The following supplementary resolutions, not to be incorporated in the platform, came from the Committee on Resolutions, and were adopted, as follows:

“Whereas, Other questions having been presented for our consideration, we hereby submit the following, not as a part of the Platform of the People’s party, but as resolutions expressive of the sentiment of this convention:

Elections.–“1. Resolved, That we demand a free ballot and pledge ourselves to secure it every legal voter without federal intervention, through the adoption by the States of the unperverted Australian or secret ballot system.

Taxation.–“2. That the revenue derived from a graduated income tax should be applied to the reduction of the burden of taxation now resting upon the domestic industries of this country.

Pensions.–“3. That we pledge our support to fair and liberal pensions to ex-Union soldiers and sailors.

Immigration.–“4. That we condemn the fallacy of protecting American labor under the present system, which opens our ports to the pauper and criminal classes of the world, and crowds out our wage-earners ; and we denounce the present ineffective laws against contract labor, and demand the further restriction of undesirable immigration.

Eight-hour Law.–“5. That we cordially sympathize with the efforts of organized workingmen to shorten the hours of labor, and demand a rigid enforcement of the existing Eight-hour law on government work, and ask that a penalty clause be added to the said law.

Pinkerton Men.–“6. That we regard the maintenance of a large standing army of mercenaries, known as the Pinkerton system, as a menace to our liberties, and we demand its abolition ; and we condemn the recent invasion of the Territory of Wyoming by the hired assassins of plutocracy, assisted by federal officials.

Miscellaneous.–“7. That we commend to the favorable consideration of the people and to the reform press the legislative system known as the initiative and referendum.

“8. That we favor a constitutional provision limiting the office of President and Vice-President to one term, and providing for the election of Senators of the United States by a direct vote of the people.

“9. That we oppose any subsidy or national aid to any private corporation for any reason.

“10. That this convention sympathizes with the Knights of Labor and their righteous contest with the tyrannical combine of clothing manufacturers of Rochester, and declares it to be the duty of all who hate tyranny and oppression to refuse to purchase the goods made by the said manufacturers, or to patronize any merchants who sell such goods.”

Cancer Solutions and Today’s Persecution – Dr. Mark Trozzi

• Dr Mark Trozzi
• November 10, 2023

While I am facing a penalty hearing today, many injection victims are facing cancer. Here’s insight, hope and solutions.

Today  is November 10th 2023 when I face the hardship of a CPSO hearing to decide their “punishment” for me in recognition of my three years dedicated  mission work to research, inform and protect people against the covid-crimes-against-humanity including the misrepresented genetic experiments that have killed and maimed unprecedented numbers of innocent people around the world. You can witness the CPSO penalty hearing starting at 9 a.m. EST (Toronto). To get a link please sign up here.

Greater hardships than mine are faced by many victims of the injections. The injections have various harmful mechanisms, which  include disruption of  the immune systems. One consequence of this is the dramatic rise in new, unusual, and fast growing cancers, even in young people; as well as aggressive cancer recurrences for people in remission, and deterioration in patients who were stable before the injections.

The toxic spike protein is mass produced by injections victims’ own bodies. This is at the root of their troubles including the immune dysfunction. So like all injected persons, those suffering from cancer should attend rigorously to measures to detoxify their bodies, and limit the harm from the spike protein. This offers hope to restore their immune systems. See links in related material below.

While we challenge and attempt to restore corrupted institutions like the CPSO, we are also building new ethical institutions like the World Council For Health.

Here WCH Science Research Chair, Canadian PhD candidate Matthew Halma takes us on a quick tour of recent WCH advances in health science, before focussing on recent WCH advances regarding cancer

WCH nutritionist and psychoneuroimmunologist Frances Haven unpacks the new WCH guide which will be available very soon.

A NEW BEGINNING FOR REAL CONSERVATIVES IN THE RIDING OF PRINCE GEORGE – NORTH CARIBOO

By
Arthur Topham – Editor/Publisher
of the Cariboo Sentinel
October 28th, 2023

Editor’s Note: It is with great pleasure and relief that last evening while scrolling down my Newsfeed on X (formerly Twitter) I came across the following Tweet by the Conservative Party of BC.

I immediately clicked on the url to their website https://www.conservativebc.ca/sheldonclare in order to find out who Sheldon Clare was and why he decided to commit to running in my riding (North Cariboo). I was most favourably impressed by reading through his bio and the diversity of his experience as a local boy who had grown up in the hub city of Prince George.

I breathed a sigh of relief knowing that when the next provincial election is called in BC that the people of North Cariboo and Prince George will finally have a viable third and Conservative choice of who they want in government to represent and speak out for the values that they believe in and wish to hang on to as the province (and the country as a whole) continues to steer the BC ship of state through the troubled waters that now plainly face not only beautiful BC but the world as a whole.

It’s also important to know that the Conservative Party of BC with its Leader John Rustad is not officially associated with any other federal, provincial or municipal conservative parties including the present Conservative Party of Canada.

To quote from the party website here are the principles of the Conservative Party of BC which Sheldon Clare and party will be striving to uphold under the slogan “Fight for BC!” when the next election rolls around:

As the Editor & Publisher of the Cariboo Sentinel this online news site will be promoting Sheldon Clare and the Conservative Party of BC. The other two major parties, the New Democratic Party (NDP) and the former Liberal Party of BC (now identifying as the BC UNITED party) have, over the course of the last 3 years, proven themselves to be inadequate to the task of providing the people of British Columbia with the good governance that it deserves. Space in this Intro won’t allow me to provide all the sordid details as to why it’s time for them to either be put out to pasture or be incarcerated for their actions. Now back to Sheldon Clare.

Miracle! Managing to escape the country (Guatemala) And with a load.

The shutdown began by the popular organizations, Monday. By Saturday morning the entire country effectively shut down 90% Plus! With total support of the people. No movement, no transport, no business, no government…with tens of thousands of trucks and private cars stranded on the highways. Unbelievable!!

The Police? Impotent to do anything but watch from the sidelines.

The Government will not back down. With the incoming newly elected government January, anti corruption and serious, present government leaders, functionaries and business leaders will be jailed for their documented acts of corruption.

In this case of stalemate, the army will decide! Which may mean mega violence.

The People tasting their powers and effective shutdown won´t back down! can´t back down!

Our work is well known. Our affiliations well known!

We have escaped, just barely, with life!
  ——————————————————————————–

One must conclude that this year´s cacao harvest has been a failure.

We manage Fair-trade, so despite the poor quality, we´ve paid out generously, despite the losses (more than 25% rejected seed!).

It´s not the be all and end all, our profit margin. We´re concerned for the health and welfare of our growers and families!

Thankfully, we´ve been building up our stock, for just such emergencies:

Roasted hulled cacao, dozens of our 90 pound sacks. Milled into 6 to 7 # bars of pure cacao paste, hundreds of such bars!

And our honey chocolates, 20 ounce bars, dozens and dozens even after this latest shipment.

So despite the looming stagflation/hyperinflationary economic collapse ongoing…we maintain ample supplies!

So even if people can no longer afford basic food supplies…there will be ample supplies of our honey chocolates
  ——————————————————————————————

Interesting how our petty daily routines are out the window….as the crises unfold…..

The bus into El Estor, the base of our operations faced almost unpassable roadways, which had been financed for asphalting, if not for the corruption!

Lateness disrupted all my plans…as we arrived to face El Estor in pitch blackness!

No electricity!

The city, without the kickback scam from the Russian mining operations, shutdown over USA/Russian geopolitical confrontation, bloated bureaucracy, no revenues, could not pay their hydro bill!

Worse with the total shutdown and paralysis of the economic sectors, one billion losses per day to the corporates…..
  ——————————————————————————-

It´s neat (as intended!) how the processing of a cash crop can extend benefits throughout the community! Natural economy based on careful utilization of the natural resources of food forest, soils and subsoils. Just a matter of supplying the skills and processing equipment, which has been our work!

We grade the cacao into primary for direct sales of the cacao medicine, for its central nervous system benefits…the secondary quality into our honey chocolates, roasting and hulling and milling operations carried out by the community…and third grade; roasted at home by the elders, to sell on the village roadways…everyone making a little cash!

Our model for how rural society can function..promoting rural campesino lifestyle and culture…no corporate wage labour…a community of workers and service providers, all ages!
  ————————————————————————————-

DO NOT COMPLY!

As children return to schools and the cold and flu season approaches, rumours are swirling about a return to covid restrictions.

The propaganda machines are starting to spin back up.

I remember these strategies.

First they start to normalize fear through the media, then the government recommends things like masks and boosters, then mandates and restrictions follow.

They’ve even started making up scary new terms like “tripledemic”–three simultaneous pandemics of the flu, RSV, and covid.

And I can already see it’s working. I see more people wearing masks out and about every day.

The government is also in the process of approving three new vaccines for new strains of covid, and refuses to disclose how many doses it has preemptively acquired.

I don’t mean to fearmonger, but it seems like a distinct possibility that we may be returning to Orwellian restrictions in the coming months.

I have a simple message for you today.

DO. NOT. COMPLY.

Last time it took years for enough Canadians to wake up, or muster the courage to stop complying with unnecessary and unjust restrictions such as mask mandates and vaccine passports.

We can’t go through that again. We’re still recovering from the last time.

This time, we can’t give them an inch.

Every one of us has a role to play in rejecting these tyrannical policies.

Don’t think for a second that you as an individual are not significant enough to make a difference. We must stand together. We saw the power unity has during the Freedom Convoy.

Do not wear the masks. Do not let them force masks on your children. Do not get the boosters. And do not close your businesses.

We know how useless and destructive these policies are. We won’t fall for them again.

Pierre Poilievre coasted on the populist fury generated by the Freedom Convoy to take leadership of the so-called Conservative Party.

But really, he’s done the bare minimum when it comes to rejecting covid authoritarianism.

He’s silent when it comes to standing up for the unvaccinated and the vaccine injured.

He used the Freedom Convoy as nothing more than a photo opportunity.

He criticized Trudeau for not ensuring vaccines were forced on Canadians faster, while supporting Trudeau’s reckless spending throughout the covid years.

So as a return to more restrictive covid mandates looms on the horizon, who do you trust to stand up for you?

I hope you have my back. I will always have yours.

Help me fight returning covid restrictions with a $10 donation today!

Cheers,
-Max

Permanent nightmare

Thud! The sound of a falling body hitting the canopy at the bottom of the World Trade Center tower, yes, the falling silhouette of a body twitching spastically in the air, fighting gravity in the final moments of his life, permanently etched in our consciousness, looming like a silent scarecrow in our dreams, emulsified in a puddle of his own bodily fluids.

Splat! Like dropping a watermelon from a very high place, splattered on the pavement. What made him jump? What was so unbearable that freedom became that 10-second fall to oblivion in his final moments, an act preferable to being roasted by a direct energy weapon a thousand feet above the unforgiving Manhattan pavement?

Or like the mother in Maui assured by blasé firefighters that the buildings were cleared and everyone was safe, then coming home finding the body of her young son clutching the family dog, his crumbling little corpse still smoldering in the rubble of the lie of America’s torpid future and its hideous past.

Why weren’t they talking about these things in America’s wretched presidential debate last night? Why weren’t they talking about the phony wars America inflicts upon the world for the purpose of the pustule of profit that motivates America’s curdled politicians, as they smile grimly at you while they cravenly beg for your vote?

Why weren’t they talking about the leering litany of lies that comprise American history never taught, ever couched in ridiculous tales of virtue signaling about a fictitious enemy we created ourselves in order to convince everyone our government was helping us to live when the sorry fact is that it was always aiming at our untimely termination.

So the painted clown face of the human race stares back at us from the mirror of our dreams as we watch their latest sales tales unfold. The stare turns to a glare and then the glare to a leering grin at the story they spin that these fires they create by beams from above that turns the human future into a giant cinder that they blame on something called global warming that is really only a fairy tale to herd humans into a giant corral where they can be properly controlled, efficiently processed, purposefully sedated and recklessly exterminated so that richest among us can live peacefully on their plantation of perverted pederasty.

Human cattle herded toward a slaughterhouse. This is human history. We cannot escape it as long as we continue to lie about who we are and what we’ve done.

Think you’ve got it all worked out? All you can really choose is the manner of your death. Except that now the men who have gathered so much cash that don’t have to worry about being refuted have decided to choose it for us, as they light a backfire against the wind that is going to immolate our future in the flames of our own curdled karma.

And the affluent smirk at the utter powerlessness of we pathetic useless eaters. They look at us with total contempt, like those barbaric black thugs who beat up defenseless white haired ladies for fun, and spit on them. “What are you going to do about it?” they growl in the snickering sadism of their own ignorance, trying but failing to kill their own deaths, but quite satisfied at inflicting ours.

Out of the pit of darkest night wafts the signature phrase of Edgar Allen Poe’s tortured comment about human hope. “Quoth the Raven — nevermore.”

Open letter to Ministers Bruce Ralston, Mike Farnworth and George Heyman Re: Shuswap Fires

23 August 2023

We write to request urgently needed help for residents in Celista and the surrounding area of the Shuswap Lake region of British Columbia for:

• timely firefighting help.

• access to fire hydrant water for firefighting.

• land and water access to necessaries, including food, water and fuel.

• adequate prior notification when Forestry or Firefighting personnel set fires in the area.

• notification to affected people when fires threaten lands and residences.

• freedom for the residents–those who stayed behind–to move about as needed, to help one another.

• to allow them to get supplies and machinery where and when needed to put out the remaining fires.

• a thorough investigation into who gave the order for the back burn on a day when high winds were predicted.

• who gave the order that essentially prohibits residents from helping other residents to fight the fires.

• who gave the orders for police to block supplies.

Moreover, residents need to be included in both consultation and decision making, and firefighting responses. Mechanisms can and must be put in place to allow BC Wildfire Service and local Fire Services to make use of and coordinate local resources, including community volunteers and their equipment.

Help controlling and extinguishing fires threatening Shuswap residents’ homes and lands is reported to have been slow and intermittent, with fire crews being taken off the Shuswap fire and transferred back onto the Kelowna fire. Furthermore, residents have reported that in one instance a fire crew stood by, refusing to assist after having been ordered to stay put, leaving residents to protect their homes on their own. Fortunately, said fire crew eventually gave in to reason and compassionate common-sense and lent their hands to putting out the spot fires as they arose. Equally disturbing is the fact that police have been blocking and continue to block land and water access to residents attempting to bring in necessary supplies to those who have chosen to remain and protect their homes. Fire hydrants have been shut off preventing access to water for firefighting.

Police ought to be concentrating their efforts on protecting vital fire equipment and preventing looting. Police should not be keeping food, water, and fuel from those who are endeavouring to save their own and their neighbours’ homes—such obstruction constitutes a real and avoidable threat to their survival.

Resources need to be invested in good-faith communication efforts to support organized, communally anchored and supported collaboration to fight the fires threatening Shuswap and Okanagan communities. The measure of civic responsibility is not passive compliance and communities are not created or run by experts. On the contrary, community responsibility is exercised by actions that are competent, collaborative, consensual, and based on shared knowledge of community needs.

A Celista Creek resident reports that help from fire fighters has not been readily available. On 17 August at about 4:00 pm, forestry and fire fighter personnel apparently set a back burn fire approximately 15 km from the end of Meadow Creek Road in Celista, at a time when strong winds were forecast for the area, and without notifying Celista residents. By midnight the fire had spread to the Meadow Creek property of a resident. When the resident sought help from nearby firefighters the resident was initially told that although the firemen wanted to help, they had orders to ‘sit’. Residents, eventually assisted by firefighters, were able to, at least temporarily, control the blaze. Police are now reported to be blocking land and water access, preventing residents who have stayed on their properties from receiving necessary supplies of gas, food and water.

This information points to government agents acting not to save but to harm the residents of the North Shuswap area. Government authorities have not acted to protect the safety of residents threatened by fire in Celista and the surrounding area. While residents have not received timely help from available firefighters, an inexplicably excessive police presence has been deployed to prevent community members, who have chosen to remain and defend their homes, from receiving necessary supplies.

We ask that you immediately put in place all measures necessary to ensure that residents are properly consulted and assisted in leaving or defending their properties and that residents are provided with:

a) fire threat notification.
b) timely firefighting help.
c) water for firefighting from functioning fire hydrants.
d) access to necessaries.
e) freedom to move supplies and machinery unimpeded by authorities.
f) answers regarding orders given to backburn, to prohibit volunteer efforts, to block supplies.

Please advise us of your actions to address these urgent needs.

Thank you in advance for taking the actions requested.

Sincerely,

Gail Davidson

North Shuswap firestorm 2023

By Jim Cooperman

Our home the night of the fire, photo by Angie Laryea

During the firestorm, a brave neighbour drove up the road to check on our place and took an amazing photo above of the hillside behind our home ablaze, yet the fire never went past the area that had been watered. This successful protection of our home should serve as a prime example of why everyone who lives in rural areas needs to do fire proofing to protect their homes.

A photo of our house the day after the fire

A fire caused by lightning started above the west side of Adams Lake on July 12th, grew slowly then initially exploded on July 20th due to a windstorm. Early in August, it moved down the hillside and if not for a huge effort by firefighters it would have destroyed homes and cabins along the lake. The fire continued to grow due to the winds and edged further southeast towards the North Shuswap community of Lee Creek, in the North Shuswap. By the third week of August it was about 6 km away from properties. When the weather report indicated that a strong northerly windstorm would hit on the evening of August 17th, the BC Wildfire Service made the extremely risky decision to use a controlled burn (a backburn) to reduce the fuel load in front of the fire.

They lit the backburn using a helicopter and ping-pong balls filled with sodium nitrate and anti-freeze. It was a massive fire that produced a giant mushroom cloud of smoke above the hills above our home. The next day the strong winds blew the combined fire down to Lee Creek, Scotch Creek and Celista, destroying approximately 100 homes, cabins, and businesses.

The fire also combined with another fire on east side of Adams Lake below the lake creating a firestorm that blew into Squilax, forcing the evacuation of the fire camp in a field and then destroying a gas station, homes and many cabins. It jumped across the Little Shuswap River and then destroyed homes north and south of the Squilax Bridge before moving up Squilax Mountain, east to the hills above Sorrento and south into Turtle Valley. This end of the fire continues to threaten the South Shuswap, Skimikin, Sorrento and as far away as Tappen.

A photo of me working on the spot fire near our home

I was able to return to my property the day after the fire swept through and with the help of a young WWOOFer from Germany, we began working on a spot fire that could have burned down our pump house and/or lit the remaining forest on fire and burned down a neighbour’s house. We used buckets from our pond initially, until a fire department truck arrived. It was doused multiple times and it kept coming back, because it was burning underground in tree roots. One of the many locals with a truck and water tank also came to help. When we finally left near dark, there was another fire truck dousing it. Then late that night it blew up again and the local returned to water it down. This example shows how difficult it is to deal with spot fires, that could continue for months.

A fire department crew from Vancouver Island again working on our spot fire at the end of the day. This fire continue to flare up for days afterwards and was again doused by both local and fire department fire fighters.

The main news story yesterday that continues today is that equipment used to keep a key bridge watered down was either stolen or “borrowed.” They use this story continuously to justify the heavy police lockdown, yet there many doubts about this story, because no one ever saw the equipment missing. The fire had swept by the area during the Friday night firestorm and there was no longer any threat to the bridge as there were no nearby spot fires and yet they continued to water the bridge. As well, the equipment being used is extremely heavy and would not be easy to take away.

Because of the road blockades and spike belts, the only way in and out is by boat. Many dozens  of boat owners have been volunteering their time to ferry people and supplies back and forth from the south shore to the north shore from marinas in Blind Bay and Sorrento and from private docks. Yet now police and conservation officers are out on the lake halting and chasing these boats, with the aid of police on shore using binoculars. As well, police have shown up at the marinas to block this effort.

The reason our home was saved is due to the fire smart work we have done over the past few years. We selectively logged our property, leaving most of the largest trees and near our home we removed most of the conifer trees. Knowing how dangerous decorative junipers are, we removed all the ones that posed a threat. On the day before the firestorm, we thoroughly watered the hillside behind our house, as that is where the fire would come from as lawns cover the yard in front of our house.
