The city of Quesnel located B.C.’s central interior region known as the Cariboo was the subject of a bomb threat on the afternoon of Monday, August 23, 2021. The incident took place in West Quesnel at the West Park Shopping Mall which is home to Save-on Foods and a number of other commercial outlets. The local RCMP and the Fire Department were immediately called in and all the shops were vacated.

Staff from Save-On Foods congregate in the parking lot as the police carry out their investigation. At the time of this initial report the writer was unable to get any details of the incident. Bomb threats in Quesnel are a rarity even though mainstream media likes to portray the city as one of the more crime-ridden spots in Canada. Speculation as to why West Park Mall would suddenly receive such a threat remains a mystery at this point.

Quesnel Fire Department truck block the main entrance to the mall at the corner of Malcolm Drive and Anderson Drive.

RCMP set up points of entrance around the mall to ensure that no one entered unexpectedly.

Some of the mall workers hanging out at the corner awaiting word on whether or not it would be safe to return to work.
